Audition
VOCALISTS:
Please prepare at least one verse and one chorus of each of the songs listed below. You will be accompanied by light drums (your auditioner happens to be a drummer) only in your audition so that we can focus solely on your voice and hear your talent shine! However, if you also play another instrument such as guitar or keys, please be sure to bring them with you so that you can share all of your skills with us at the time of your audition.
Male Songs:
Mustang Sally – Wilson Pickett
Georgia – Ray Charles
Stand By Me – Ben E. King
Fly Me to the Moon – Sinatra
Smooth – Santana
One additional rock song that you feel showcases your vocal talent.
Female Songs:
Respect – Aretha Franklin
Chain of Fools – Aretha Franklin
At Last – Etta James
California Gurls – Katy Perry
One additional rock song that you feel showcases your vocal talent.
FOR ALL INSTRUMENT AUDITIONS:
Please prepare one rock, one pop, one ballad, and one funk song from the list above for your audition. Even though it is not our focus, if you play jazz, we would like to hear you play in that style as well. We want to hear you at your best. So, in addition, please be prepared to perform a song selection of your choice not from our list you think will make you shine. Be sure to bring ALL of the instruments that you play as well as your own amp. (Do NOT bring a full-size amp. Bring only a small amp.) Keep in mind, we are conducting many auditions for various instruments. You will only have about 5 minutes to set up.
Below are directions to your first interview/audition location. Brian Choper, owner of Washington’s Entertainment Connection, pre-screens artists prior to them meeting the full band for the formal audition. Please be on time, and if you find yourself running late, we STRONGLY encourage you to call and let us know. The first number to call would be Laurie’s at 301-793-8995. If you find her unavailable, you need to call Brian at 301-441-8899. Whatever you do, if you are running late or if you for some reason need to reschedule, call.
Just a note. Both Google and Yahoo have screwed up the driving directions. Once you get onto Route 1 (in Maryland), their directions are often wrong.
Therefore, please review the following:
5213 Mineola Road
College Park, MD 20740
Please note. Brian lives in Prince Georges County, Maryland. (This is not a Virginia address.)
From north:
Take 495 to Route 1 south. Take exit ramp off the beltway (exit ramp is long). Stay in right lane of ramp. As ramp forks, take the right fork, but get into the far left lane of this fork. At the light as you come to Route 1(at the end of this fork), take an immediate left onto Edgewood Road. Proceed approx 3 blocks distance (see a 7 – 11 on the right), and stop at the 4 way stop sign intersection. Go straight through this intersection. Proceed for 2 blocks (up a slight hill) and come to another stop sign at 51st Avenue. Make a right at this intersection and an immediate left onto Mineola Road. Brian is the last house on the bottom of the street on the right hand side; 5213 Mineola. It has a brick driveway, and there is a windmill on the lawn.
